CBSE - UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) - For Lectureship

The University Grants Commission holds a national level test, for determining the eligibility of Indian National Candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship and for determining eligibility for recruitment of Lecturers in Universities and Colleges in the subjects falling in the Faculties of Humanities,(including languages), Social Science and others. This examination gets conducted to select best candidates for eligibility of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Similarly, recruitment to the post of Lecturer may be made from among the qualified candidates by the Universities / Colleges as per their prescribed procedure. Candidates qualifying for JRF test will also be eligible for Lectureship. However, candidates qualifying exclusively for eligibility for Lectureship will be eligible for recruitment of lecturers only and not for JRF.


CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY

Candidates who have secured 55% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences & Computer applications etc. are eligible for this test. For SC/ST category candidates who have secured atleast 50% marks (without grace) in Master’s degree are eligible for this test. There are many other mandatory details regarding UGC Net eligibility criteria which you must know and also you must fulfil these in order to apply.

Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s Degree examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose examinations have been delayed may also apply for this national level test. However, such candidates will be considered eligible for Lectureship/Award of Fellowship and permitted to join the position after they have passed the Master’s Degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks and have been declared qualified in this test.

Candidate who has completed Ph.D and had passed Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991 with atleast 50% marks (without grace marks) are also eligible to appear in the NET test. Candidates have to appear in the subject of their Post Graduation only.


AGE LIMIT

a) For Junior Research Fellowship. Not more than 28 years as on 1st Jan./July following the year of Examination relaxable upto 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories, Physically challenged and women applicants. Relaxation will also be applicable to the candidates having research / training at P.G. Level, limited to the period spent on research/training in the subject, subject to the maximum of 5 years supported by a certificate from appropriate authority. 3 years relaxation in age will also be permissible to the candidates possessing LL.M Degree.

b) For Lectureship: No upper age limit.

Paper 1 is common for all subjects and Paper II and III is subject related. Students are advised to take all the three papers for coaching purpose as the grading is done based on total marks obtained out of the total students appeared in the exam.

In paper-1 students are required to get the prescribed cut off marks and then only the remaining papers will be evaluated. So students are not only required to get pass marks, but with higher score in each papers in order to become qualified as per the criteria laid down by CBSC/UGC.

Classroom Instruction: Students will receive full-time class room instruction, which would help them to learn and consolidate their understanding of the subject.
